Thomas Waters once again took it out very fast passing the 400m mark in 62 seconds with Bryan, Scott and coach Neil right behind. Zac and Andrew were there in 67 seconds, Jonathan was on pace for a sub 5 min mile. Things changed over the next 2 laps with Thomas dropping off the pace and Bryan pushing the pace so Neil could not challenge him. Neil having trouble with his stomach was off of his 4:16 college form. Scott was giving it a great effort and ended up with a PR, his first mile PR not in a cross country race. Jonathan also got a PR even though fading over the last lap. Zac did well running without modified inserts in his shoes for the first time in 5 weeks.

I set out 4 years ago to document the progress of an up and coming Boys Desert Christian Cross Country Team. I had some idea you would be fast as you had each other to push the envelope in your training each year and you had two Christian men coaching you that were open to suggestion. Your coaches went above and beyond in building camaraderie and Christian character which was vital for teammates pulling for each other. This team was running for each other and for the Glory of God.
I enjoyed my time with the team, the Grass Mountain runs,, the early season strength training and stretching sessions. I am going to miss you guys but I do hope that you will continue to run even after track season. You will be remembered more for your character and giving credit to your Maker than for being one of the fastest division 5 teams in history.
Keep on Running,
Mr. Patten
