The attached link are the results of today’s Southern Section Finals. While the results are from what we were hoping for, we still have much to celebrate. Congratulations for qualifying to the State meet. While we were hoping to finish 1st or 2nd, our 6th place finish and team time of 83:30 was still the fastest team time ever run by a DCHS team at the Southern Section Finals, and the third fastest time ever run by a DCHS team on the regular Mt. Sac course. We ran it faster at the Mt. Sac Invitational earlier this year and at the Invitational last year.

We need to celebrate the incredible accomplishment of Scott Acton with his time of 15:32, breaking his own school record set earlier this year on the same course. Scott finished 4th overall earning his second consecutive All-CIF honor. Congratulations also to Thomas Waters for running a personal best 16:07 on the tough Mt. Sac course. Thanks to Acton (15:32), Curtis (16:05), and Waters (16:07) who finished 4th, 12th, and 13th we were able to run fast enough and score some low points to allow us to advance to the State meet next Saturday.

I know it is easy to get discouraged because we did not do today what we set out for, but please don’t be. We had some terrific runs, and next week we will have Zac Patten back and he has been maintaining great conditioning. Guys, we can still win this thing. Most of the teams had 5 runners that ran as fast as they can on the tough course, meaning we have a whole lot more upside going into next week. I have seen teams struggle at the SS Finals before, only to rebound at the State meet when it matters most.

If we continue to give God praise even when we fall short then who knows maybe he will bless us with a State championship next week. The key is will we continue to give him praise? Knowing the heart of this team, I know we will. Guys, don’t let your guard down, I’m confident that we will rebound next week and finish in the top 2 like we certainly should, maybe even first.
